Championship Manager Quiz review

The great Championship Manager is back...but wait a minute, what's this ending - it's not a number or a season (like Season: 01/02). No, it says "Quiz". That can only mean one thing - a disastrous computer game.

And you'd be right. The Championship Manager brand has been used to identify that this a football quiz. Many people may think they know football, but having played this, you'll realise you know next to nothing. You'd have to have a sadistically large knowledge of football to be able to play this game - which means the average punter isn't gonna have a clue. If you can win regularly at this game - you need a life!

The game features a match-like system, with the player aiming to get the ball into the opponents net by answering questions to move the ball along. You choose the route of the ball, by choosing the player you wish to pass to. The player you choose decides the category of question you receive (the category is written underneath the player). You also pick your team at the start, meaning you can receive some nice team-related questions that you’re more likely to know. Manager tactics - similar to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's lifelines – help you answer these ridiculously hard questions, but without "phone-a-friend" or "ask the audience", it's just not as fun.

The graphics of the game are quite sparse - all that is features is a pitch, a small cartoon ball, some small cartoon pictures of kits, and a few other small text-based graphics like score and time. The questions are only text - no nice graphical pictures, or "Guess what happens next" videos, just some trivia for you to get bored on. The Championship Manager games have never been at the height of graphics, but this is just poor - even the multiple background images that have featured in many Championship Manager games are not here - you have the same, one background image throughout the whole game - menu and all!

There are penalty shoot-out and keepy-uppy modes in the game to type and keep your interest, but they fail to succeed at this. Two player and pub quiz try to offer social interaction, but having a go, while the other person sits and stares, watching you fail, is just boring.

It looks like the Championship Manager geniuses at Sports Interactive have done a EA on us - and cashed in their great name for a game that shouldn't have gone above the price of £0.00 from the SI website. If only they understood that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire makes an awful game, and this worse...

Ratings

Graphics Next to none – the whole game is made up of text questions, and one background picture throughout. 2/10
Gameplay Boring game with questions that make you scream “no more!” 3/10
Value At the time of writing, we did not have a value for money ranking. 0/10
Lifespan 11,000 questions – most of them stupidly hard or boring. 4/10
Audio Some poor music - and they don't even read the questions! 3/10
Overall A boring uninspiring game that’s should be nothing more than a freebie. Ignore the Championship Manager brand, this doesn’t live up to the standard 3/10
