Serious Sam: The First Encounter HD was confirmed today, bringing back Croteam's classic FPS. However, it took two announcements from different publishers to tell us it's heading to the Xbox 360 and PC.

Majesco Europe are handling the Xbox Live Arcade release for 360 owners, and is being produced by Devolver Digital, a new production and publishing company based in Texas. It'll be a digital-only release and is arriving on the service in the "late summer". cdv, meanwhile, are handling the PC release, bringing it both to retail and download stores, which we expect includes Steam. Devolver Digital are also behind this version.

Both games are based on Croteam's first Serious Sam game, but it will ported to their new Serious Engine 3, which means it's not just a quick bit of HD polish being applied to this title, as these first screenshots:

As well as the HD visuals, and traditional bucket-load of enemies, there's also the promise of 4-player online co-op that will hopefully be in both versions (only confirmed for Xbox 360 at the moment). We'll let you know when we get more precise release dates and prices.
