Sony might be running the "GT Academy" to find the best driver in its game, but the drinks brand behind the current F1 champions, Red Bull, is looking to go one better with a new competition designed to find the UK's "Best Virtual Racer". Called Gridsters, it's rather unique in that it's a competition that goes across both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and across three games; Forza Motorsport 4 on the 360, and Gran Turismo 5 and F1 2011 on the PS3.

The process involves logging on to the Gridsters website and submitted a video demonstrating your racing game credentials, along with either your PSN ID or Xbox Live Gamertag. If you're topping the leaderboards in these games, this is a good time to show that off, although they're also looking for passion and general skills. 16 finalists will then be selected by a panel of industry experts to head to the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of the month for the "Gridsters Dome" where they will compete for prizes, including a trip to November's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

It all ties into the Festival of Speed's "Young Guns" theme this year, and the attending finalists will get to rub shoulders with many motor racing stars, including double F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Who drives for Red Bull Racing, of course. If you want to enter you'll need to be quick, with finalists to be chosen next Friday, 22nd June. This is because the Festival itself starts on the 28th, with the Gridsters competition taking place at the weekend, the 30th June and 1st July.
