PS3 motion controller due this Autumn

Sony have revealed plans for their new PS3 motion controller, currently known simply as the "Motion Controller" (how original). It's due out worldwide, including here in Europe, with plans for a wide-range of software compatible with the new device to be available on launch. It was originally expected earlier this year, and the later release means the Motion Controller may now be going up against Microsoft's Project Natal controller-less system, which currently has a speculative release date of Autumn 2010.

The PS3 system currently lacks a final name, but we do know that it will work in combination with the PlayStation Eye camera which is already on the market, and utilise colour on the device to track a range of motions from multiple controllers. First and third-party support is already being promised, and Sony also plans to promote the device as a "de facto controller" of the PS3, alongside the DualShock, rather it being a separate device with limited support, as seen previously with the PlayStation Eye camera itself.

We expect to hear more details, including hopefully about the price, in the months ahead.
