This week's European PlayStation Store update didn't go as planned. They usually go up on Thursday, and Sony Europe (SCEE) had been promoting this day as the downloadable release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (with the Blu-Ray Disc version following the next day). However, things went wrong at SCEE on Thursday, embarrassingly delaying the update until late Friday afternoon.
However, once it did go live, everyone was up as planned. GT5P is available for purchase and download, though unfortunately for the same £24.99 price it retails for in the shops, despite the lack of costs associated with a real-world presence. Like the money the shops themselves get...
Aside from this, the update also brought a free demo of EA's upcoming football tie-in UEFA Euro 2008, for that football tournament this summer none of us in Britain will care about. Continuing the free theme are 3 new maps for Unreal Tournament III. Released simultaneously on the PS3 and PC, the pack contains two DM and one CTF map for you to enjoy, two of which are remakes from the original game in the series. For £1.99 you can also get new maps for Turok, which is somewhat less appealing, both because of the price and the game. If you are in the mood for paid-for content then there's also the Eye of Judgement "Bio Rebellion" card set for £6.99, though you'll also need to pick up the physical card to play along too, which is even more money. But then Eye of Judgement isn't cheap to start off with.
If you're looking for a PS1 classic then you're out of luck, but there is a new PS1 re-release on the PlayStation Store this week. On both the PS3 Store, and the PC-based PSP version is Reel Fishing. It's, well, fishing from Natsume, and is playable on both your console and handheld for the price of £3.49.
There's also some free trailers to check out, though the big one - the fourth Grand Theft Auto IV trailers - is nowhere to be seen on the European Store. You'll have to head over to the American version for that, if you're feeling crafty, though it's the only thing worth picking up over there unless you have a US-based credit card.
