New firmware for PS3 launches new PlayStation Store

Firmware 2.30 has gone live this morning for PlayStation 3s across the world that are hooked up to the internet, bringing with it a completely new PlayStation Store. The new Store is no longer simply a clunky website, and sports a faster and more eye-pleasing (and indeed easier-to-use) system similar to the SingStore used in the PS3 version of SingStar. To make up for the lack of updates over the past couple of weeks or so, SCEE have given the European Store some new content upon relaunch. There's a free demo of SEGA Superstars Tennis that was previously available Stateside, a £2.99 add-on pack for the excellent Super Stardush HD that's probably worth your money if you have the game, and 3 free tracks for Guitar Hero III in the Dropkick Murphys pack. There's a bunch of new trailers up there too.

This won't be the only update this week, either, with the usual Thursday update still planned. We don't know all that will arrive then, but we are promised new free multiplayer maps for Kane & Lynch and the client for the open beta of Meta Gear Online. We'll bring you more about both of these, and anything else that arrives, on Thursday.
