It was gone almost as quickly as it arrived; the beta for Sony's customisable kart game ModNation Racers was released on the PlayStation Store on Thursday, available to the first 100,00 users, before disappearing on Friday. This closed, but completely free, public beta will now continue for a while for those who downloaded the client while it was available, while others will have to look on, hoping some more slots will be available in the near future.
The beta was the lead item in an otherwise unremakable update to the PlayStation Store. There's a few new special offers, but the only other new bit of major content was Vector TD, an intersting looking tower defense game, playable as a mini on the PSP or PS3 for £2.49. The free "Warriors of Justice Pac" DLC for Dragon Ball: Raging Blast is the only new bit of game content aside from the usual array of RockBand and Guitar Hero 5 tracks. For PS3 owners, anyway.
On PSP there's some full-sized titles - Need for Speed Underground Rivals (£15.99), The History Channel: The Great Battles of Rome (£7.99) and Ben 10: Protector of Earth (£9.99) - to go alongside the aforementioned mini, with no PSP DLC in this update.
