Things still haven't quite got back into the full swing this week following the Christmas break, but we do at least have some things to talk about. This includes survival horror game AMY, which has had a simultaneous launch on PSN and Xbox Live Arcade. Despite the attention it seemed to garner (admittedly against a rather bleak January release schedule), it seems to have not gone down too well with critics. If you have an Xbox 360 you can grab the usual free trial and find out if you agree. If you have a PS3 you'll need to ask your 360-owning friends what they think as there is no trial for you, for some reason. If you still want to buy it, it's £7.99 on PSN and 800 MSP/£6.80 on XBLA.
Also getting simultaneous releases on the PS3 and 360 are three new demos you may actually be interested in trying. EA Sports' Grand Slam Tennis 2 can be sampled for free from the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live Marketplace, where you'll also be able to try out Capcom's upcoming action game Asura’s Wrath. You can also get a slice of Square Enix's upcoming RPG sequel Final Fantast XIII-2. It's unusual for a Final Fantasy game to get a demo, let alone one ahead of release, so go enjoy this for nothing and see if the full game interests you.
Retro game Choplifter gets an HD makeover on the Xbox Live Arcade. It seems to be a competant, if not overly exciting release, and again you can try it out for yourself before purchasing. It's 0 MSP to sample, and 1200 MSP (£10.20) for the full game.
There are no new 3DS exclusives this time around, with '3DSWare' (that is, original 3DS games) and the Virtual Console taking a bit of a break this week. You can, however, get one of two new DSiWare games which are available on both the 3DS e-Shop and the DSiShop on, well, your DSi. Doodle Fit, a puzzle game that's previously garnered attention on iOS, Android and even PlayStation minis is now on DSiWare for 500 DSi Points/£4.50. Alternatively for the same price you could pick up Make Up & Style. Or not. On the Wii there's a new WiiWare adventure game called Bobby Carrot Forever and it costs 800 Wii Points (£5.60).
Also popping up on the PlayStation Store is a new 3D platformer for the PS3 called Zack Zero. It's £9.99, but sadly there is again no free trial version. There's no new PSone games, but both PSP and PS3 owners can get hold of new minis; Psycho Solider, Victory Road or Trailblazer for £1.99 each.
There's little actual DLC worth highlighting, although there is a surprise free car bundle for Forza 4 which seems to have popped up on the Xbox Live Marketplace independent of the monthly car packs (which each bring a freebie). You can grab the "Hyundai Velostar Bonus Pack" which gives you two new cars; the "2011 Rhys Millen Racing Hyundai Veloster" and the 2013 "Hyundai Veloster Turbo", the latter of which also includes the ability to explore it in the Autovista mode. It's a nice little bonus for that rather preferable price of 0 Microsoft Points, which translates into about £0.00.
