Traveller's Tales' long-running series of LEGO-themed adventure games have always sold well (and have generally been very well reviewed too), and this week they took another crown in the form of the UKIE All-Format Number 1 spot. Warner Bros.' new game, LEGOBatman 2: DC Super Heroes outsold FIFA 12 despite the continuing Euro 2012 tournament. Remember, this is sales before England were knocked out of the tournament on Sunday, making Warner and TT's success more impressive. EA's FIFA 12 is pushed down to second ahead of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Solider.
There's some shake-up down the order with Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim jumping up from 23rd to 8th, likely due to sales ahead of this week's release of DLC/expansion Dawnguard, which was released for the 360 on Tuesday. Batman: Arkham City is another big climber, going from 20th to 12th, again likely due to a promotion for Warner Bros.' other excellent tie-in game.
The second and final new entry in the Top 40 is 2K's Civilization V: Gods And Kings, which makes an impressive debut in 16th considering it's a PC-only expansion pack. EA's Need For Speed: The Run makes a surprise return all the way up in 24th, a game our own Richard Pilot believes is really rather good, despite what else you may have heard. Meanwhile Activision's shooting powerhouse Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has dropped all the way from 14th to 39th - possible distribution issues for the mega-publisher? While the game has been out for a few months, it's the kind of game that usually stays in the Top 20 all year round. Considering its predecessor, Black Ops, is in 17th, it's quite possible that something other than lack of appeal has given it such a dramatic fall from grace.
This Friday sees the release of 2K's Spec Ops: The Line which could break into the Top 10, maybe even Top 5 with the right push, but we don't think it's likely to break to beat the current three top performers which look like they will sell plenty more in the weeks to come. The PS Vita version of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, something Matt Bailey praised on the PS3, is also out this week and could help the game re-enter the Top 40.
