Charts Update: FIFA goes top during Euro 2012, Gravity Rush starts strongly

With Euro 2012 now well underway, and with England still in the competition (for at least a bit longer), it's probably not all that surprising to see EA's FIFA 12 - which can be extended via DLC to cover the tournament - taking the top spot in this week's UKIE All-Format charts. In fact, EA's footballing giant has often been at the top and this is its 9th week there since it launched last September. According to the GFK Chart-Track who compile the charts, the game has never dropped out of the Top 5 in the 38 weeks since release, likely helped by having the official Euro 2012 as DLC instead of a separate release.

Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier drops to number 2 having held on to that top spot for 3 consecutive weeks, while Rockstar's Max Payne 3 falls to third. The strongest new entry goes to Warner Bros.' Lollipop Chainsaw, and they will likely be pleased with fourth for what is a relatively niche release. Sony should also be pleased with the 11th place debut for PS Vita-exclusive Gravity Rush, an excellent third-person adventure for the company that we hope will sell well.

Having spent a good chunk of the last three weeks out of stock, and only re-entering the Top 40 last week, Blizzard's Diablo III is selling strongly again jumping all the way up to sixth. Meanwhile Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 takes a surprise tumble out of the Top 10, falling from 7th to 14th, while the publisher also claims the biggest fall of the week with Prototype 2 going from 15th all the way down to 26th.

With Euro 2012 continuing for a few more weeks (and England likely to make it until at least the weekend's Quarter Final game), we fully expect FIFA 12 to be on top again next week. There's also a lack of new releases, with only Capcom's new 360-exclusive (and Kinect-enabled) Steel Battalion likely to make a dent on the Top 40.
