Electronic Arts will be doubly delighted with this week's All-Format charts from UKIE and Chart-Track; not only has FIFA 12 achieved the first Number 1 of 2012 (having also been at the top for the past two weeks), but Battlefield 3 has also climbed all the way up to Number 2 in the January sales. More importantly, it sold more last week than rival, Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 which managed to hold on to third place. It's now been quite some time since the multi-million selling FPS has been at the top.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is on the way back up, climbing three places to fifth, just behind Just Dance 3. Zumba Fitness, king of the charts last summer, is on the climb again, gaining a whole 13 places to reach 6th this time. In fact, it has a double digits sales increase over the previous week, compared to large declines (40% or more) for most other games as people return to work. Of course, it's the January fitness drive that's helping Zumba Fitness, and it's sequel also climbs 16 places to 12th, while EA Sports Active 2 goes from 37 to 20, and Wii Fit Plus re-enteres the charts in 27th.
Those making big tumbles this week are F1 2011 (down from 20th to 37th) and WWE '12 (13th to 26th), although this is just part of the rough and tumble of a week where prices are all over the place. Of course, there are no new releases again, but Star Wars: The Old Republic - the last big release from 3 weeks ago - is still in the Top 40 in 39th. Once again we look ahead and don't expect much to change at the top, but the only new game released this Friday - Nintendo's Wii party game Boom Street has a chance at a Top 40 slot.
