Gamescom coverage
Welcome to our Gamescom coverage on allaboutgames.co.uk
Gamescom is Europe's answer to E3. In fact, it's not just that, it's actually the world's biggest gaming event, thanks to allowing over a quarter of a million members of the public through the doors each year. It takes place in Cologne, Germany with almost all the major publishers in Europe present, including the big three manufacturers (Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony), and a whole range of third-party publishers and indie developers.
The event is located at the Koelnmesse from August 16th-21st, and here on allaboutgames.co.uk we'll be putting up coverage across the week.
We'll be providing news as and when we can, but the main focus will be on providing hands-on previews of a wide range of upcoming games. You'll be able to find what we have on offer here in our dedicated Gamescom section, and we also recommend following our "MegaFeed" RSS feed or our Twitter feed, which will both have all the news and previews, along with other content on the site.
To find out more about our coverage, head over to this blog entry.
Previews
We have a whole variety of previews from games we've either had some hands-on time with, or have been given detailed presentations about.
We're working with a range of different publishers and developers to give you in-depth coverage of their games.
All the previews from Gamescom will appear in the list below, and you can keep up with the latest by following us on Twitter.
- Darksiders 2 (Xbox 360)
Richard Pilot enjoyed playing as War in THQ's 2010 action-adventure game Darksiders, so he was rather pleased to check out the sequel at Gamescom. He takes us through a session with our new lead 'hero', Death. - Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360)
One of the most exciting and original games of 2009 was Gearbox and 2K's Borderlands. A sequel has been highly anticipated and was revealed for the first time just before Gamescom last month. Richard Pilot was given a demo of Borderlands 2 and explains why the sequel is ambitious and aggressive. - F1 Online: The Game (PC/Mac)
F1 2011 launches on the PC, 360 and PS3 this week, but it's not the only F1 game that Codemasters have been working on. Due to launch early next year is F1 Online: The Game, a Unity-powered browser game. Matt Bailey got a look at the game at Gamescom last month. - Brawl Busters (PC/Mac)
Free-to-play (F2P) games aren't just MMOs. Action games have become increasingly common amongst the list of games which no upfront charge, and among them is Rock Hippo's MicroVolts. At Gamescom the company was showing off their next one, Brawl Busters, and Andy Daniel took a look at it. - Rochard (PlayStation 3)
It is always great when you come across a surprise at an event such as Gamescom. Rochard was not a game Matt Bailey was expecting to play in Cologne, but here he takes a look at the upcoming side-scrolling action-puzzle PSN game from Recoil Games and Sony Online Entertainment. - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Xbox 360)
It's the iconic image in the fantasy genre. The mighty hero, standing one top of a derelict tower, ferociously fighting a mighty dragon. It's also the kind of action that Bethesda's Skyrim demo focussed on at Gamescom. Richard Pilot details more about the scenes and why we should be excited about this upcoming fantasy RPG. - Aliens: Colonial Marines (Xbox 360)
So much focus on the Alien franchise in recent years has been on the "Aliens vs. Predator" spin-off, particularly in video games. However, SEGA and Gearbox are looking to give us a true experience of the original film series as Andy Daniel finds out. - Prey 2 (Xbox 360)
The mixed reception of the original Prey made it a bit of a surprise when Bethesda announced earlier this year that they were creating a sequel with the people behind that first game, Human Head Studios. However, as Richard Pilot found out, it feels like a sequel in name only with an exciting and original game demoed to him at Gamescom.
