Podcast Delayed

August 3rd, 2010 by Matt Bailey

Just as we were getting into the stream of releasing podcasts on fortnightly Sundays we go and run into a technical issue. Episode 4 of the allaboutgames.co.uk podcast has been delayed by a few days due to problems caused by someone managing to delete their part of the podcast. As you might imagine this is a bit of a issue for putting together our recordings and producing the final piece of work for you all to cherish. Ironically, it was the turn of this very person to edit the podcast this time…

In related news, a failed graphics card meant that my desktop, complete with the Skype-produced backup, is also out of action, adding to the fun – and also stopping me from playing StarCraft II. However, we hope to rebuild the pieces and deliver Episode 4 later this week.

Update: We recovered the Skype recording and produced Episode 4.

allaboutgames comes to iTunes

July 4th, 2010 by Matt Bailey

The allaboutgames.co.uk podcast launched recently, and not only can you download episodes on the site, or subscribe directly from here, but you can now do it via the iTunes Store. Our podcast is now in the directory on there, and you can access it directly via this link. Please rate the podcast and provide feedback on iTunes, and as ever, we welcome feedback and questions about the podcast and the site in general via our Twitter account, or via e-mail.

We’ve actually gone and made changes

June 24th, 2010 by Matt Bailey

After a while talking about new stuff, we’ve actually gone and implemented some new things on the website. It’s not the new look, which itself will become a much more ambitious project this summer, but it’s something to freshen up the site a bit.

Firstly you’ll see we have a completely new front page which merges content together in one single ‘flow’. This blog-like format will give you the latest news, previews, reviews, articles, charts, cheats and podcasts all in one place. It helps keep the site looking fresh and places a larger emphasis on reviews than previously. You’ll also notice that reviews feature images on the front page, to add a bit of extra colour to our current design.

Podcasts are another new feature on the site. We’ve discussed this previously, but as of today we now have podcasts as a regular feature, and built into the site infrastructure. This means you’ll note only see podcasts on a regular basis, but they will be included on the front page. They also have their own RSS feeds so you can subscribe and get new episodes automatically.

Lastly there are a few other tweaks on the way to the site soon, including a new logo for allaboutgames.co.uk (which you can get a glance at in our podcast’s logo) and some tidying up around different sections.

We hope you like the changes, and welcome feedback below.

E3 Coverage 2010

June 20th, 2010 by Matt Bailey

E3, or the Electronics Entertainment Expo, is the computer games industry’s biggest event of the year and here on allaboutgames.co.uk we’ve been providing coverage. We’ve also had a dedicated section, right here. So now I’ve decided to post about it!

All news items for the show will carry an “E3:” tag so you can easily keep track of things on your news reader. We’ve also provided a detailed look at the conferences and have an E3 Special podcast on the way.

New staff members, new podcast, new plans

June 13th, 2010 by Matt Bailey

You may have noticed two important new things on the site lately; the arrival of new staff members, and the start of our new series of podcasts. The former has resulted in the latter; on board now are Andy Daniel and Richard Pilot, and they’ve been eager to get podcasting with myself and other members of the team.

You can find “Episode Zero” here, and we hope it will be the first of many. You can provide feedback to our Twitter page or via e-mail.

The podcast is just the first of few new things we’re bringing in over the next few weeks ahead of the long-awaited complete revamp we’re planning later this year. Previous plans have been put aside, and with the help of the new team we’re looking to put together something more relevant to 2010. But as this will take time we’re making some tweaks and additions to the site to keep things fresh.

So, welcome again to our two new staff writers, who have already been providing reviews to the site, and we hope you’ll stick around as allaboutgames.co.uk moves up a gear.

allaboutgames: Now on Twitter

June 7th, 2009 by Matt Bailey

I’ve been using Twitter personally for quite some time, but as we get things moving with the site again it seems right to introduce Twitter support to the website. You can subscribe to us by heading to this link, either signing up or logging in, and clicking “Follow”. The Twitter account will carry links to new news items, articles, reviews and previews as soon as they go live on the site.

E3 Coverage Information

June 2nd, 2009 by Matt Bailey

E3, or the Electronics Entertainment Expo, is the computer games industry’s biggest event of the year and here on allaboutgames.co.uk we’ll be providing coverage across the week. We’ll be putting up news as and when we can, with images and videos where available.

Some posts may be short on content if they’re just announcements, but we’ll try and bring you as much as we can from the show. All news items for the show will carry an “E3:” tag so you can easily keep track of things on your news reader. We hope you enjoy our coverage, and stick around after the event as the site undergoes redevelopment.

Back to Action

June 1st, 2009 by Matt Bailey

It has probably been a while since you saw some new content up here on allaboutgames.co.uk. That’s because things have been hectic away from the site for most of our main contributors over the last few months. We had a flurry of activity early in the year before disappear again, and now we’re getting on with things. There’s some content that’s been held back which we expect to see filtering through over the next few days and weeks, and hopefully a steady stream of updates will resume.

You’ve got to search for the hero inside yourself…

June 2nd, 2008 by Dave Wickham

…but unfortunately we can’t help you with that. We can, however, help you with searching that’s not been commanded of you by a mid-90s pop song with our new search page, which you can see over to your left in the sidebar. Just type what you’re looking for in there, and it’ll do a search within our news, reviews, previews, articles, and cheats. You can even choose what field to sort on. Fancy, eh?

(More astute readers will have noticed that we did have a search page beforehand. Unfortunately this was lost when we lost a lot of our data, including news posts, a while back – we’ve since had a far better backup strategy, so this shouldn’t happen again.)

Change is on the way

May 22nd, 2008 by Matt Bailey

We’re still a long way off, but we have finally begun to make actual progress towards the implementation of the new look we’ve mentioned before. It doesn’t look like much at the moment, but Dave is working hard to get the layout right before the graphics start to come into play. We had the design created for us some months ago, but it’s only now we’ve got the free time to get things moving, and hopefully you’ll see what we internally dub “aagV6” implemented some time this summer.

Stay tuned to this blog for the second teaser in the near future.
